Caravaggio Tour in Rome

Mario was very professional in all communication and when an emergency arose making it impossible for him to be our guide, he immediately found a replacement who was just as knowledgeable about Caravaggio and his paintings in Rome. We had a marvelous day and saw 23 out of 25 Caravaggio paintings!

Rome and Positano

We had a great experience with Mario and Grand Tour Europe. Mario was our guide for highlights of Rome, and he was knowledgable and fun and easy to be with! He coordinated other guides and drivers for us as we continued on our vacation, and they were all terrific. Highly recommend.

Sepolcro dei Scipioni

Due to my deep interest in Roman history, I wanted to visit the Sepolcro dei Scipioni. It is a relatively minor archaeological site but it is of major historical interest because it is the common burial site of a family that played a huge role in the history of the Roman republic, Unfortunately, it is only open to groups and I had to write to several guides - none answered - before Mario Bernardi from The Grand Tours agreed to organize it for me. He did a great job and arrived very well prepared, with all the knowledge. He even provided me with copies of the inscriptions and their translation. He was very helpful and "simpatico". I strongly recommend him to anybody who needs a guide in Rome

Trip of a Lifetime Thanks to Mario!

Let me start off by saying Mario has become like family to us! We are very lucky to have experienced Italy with someone who not only made sure we were always safe but took the time to make sure that we were always happy. Our trip started at the airport. We were greeted on time and with a big smile. There was a lot to cover in 1 week and so our adventure began..."Meow"... We toured around Rome and Mario's knowledge of history, art, the construction of buildings, dates was amass! Dinner wasn't just in a touristy place ever!...Mario knew of local establishments with delicious food. And we were wine drinkers. Each night, he chose great wines for all of our tastes!! On our last night in Rome, he took us outside the city to this beautiful restaurant on a lake. The staff was so accommodating and then he had them take us for a tour of their wine cellar with thousands of bottles of wine. It was a memorable night as we had never seen so much wine before. On a side note, although we had an itinerary, sometimes we didn't want to stick to it and Mario was flexible and understanding and helped us find compromises with our small group so that we would all be satisfied!..."Meow".....
After leaving Rome, we started the trek to The Amalfi Coast. We stopped in Naples for Lunch to break up the trip and then we were on our way. Our car rides were full of adventure and more history. He spoke about the areas we were; when we asked about sights along the way, he knew what each statue or mountain was. The best part was the singing in the car and....."Meow Meow Meow.....".....
Once in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, we were taken to Positano and Sorrento which was so beautiful. We got to stroll and enjoy the areas and with each area we visited on our trip, we sampled delicious food and wine. Mario was with us as much or as little as we wanted him to be....we enjoyed him to be with us!..."Meow"...
Our group had asked about booking a boat to Capri. This was one of the biggest highlights. Mario arranged a beautiful boat and a fantastic lunch catered on the boat. We got to swim, see the Grottos, hear about more history and just relax and enjoy the beauty of this wonderful place. We docked in Capri and walked around and enjoyed the sights here as well.
Before our trip, I had wanted to find a cooking class in Ravello and asked Mario to arrange this for our group. He did so and found a wonderful place for us to go that wouldn't take all day but that was hands on which is exactly what we had asked for. Our time in Ravello was filled with pure joy and we all made memories of a lifetime...."Meow Meow"...
Towards the end of the trip, we headed back to Rome, stopping in Pompei (always some culture and history). On our last night in Rome, we dined, walked around and just enjoyed the city. We truly thank Mario for making this trip so incredible for us. And no matter how tired we made him, he always had a smile on his face! We would have never gotten to see so much, or do so much in our 7 days without him. He puts a lot of time into planning for his guests and we truly appreciated his efforts for us. His charm and jokes were entertaining. No one wants a boring tour guide that just spits facts. You need to be entertained because that's how you remember things. That's exactly what Mario did for us. And you all may be wondering why you keep seeing the words..."Meow"......use Mario and you will see....
And for Mario... Grazie!! Ti Vogliamo bene!!

Ancient Rome

Our family tour of Ancient Rome with Mario was the highlight of our two week stay in Italy! It was a history lesson mixed with conversation and humor. Mario made all of us, from 18 to 54 years old, feel comfortable asking questions and conversing throughout the day. We look forward to a return trip sometime soon!

Dream Italy holiday

Our family of four adults have our dream holiday in Italy early March this year with the help of Mr. Mario Bernardi from the Grand tour.He was highly professional and exceptionally knowledgeable, taking a good care in our itinerary planning, hotels and train booking, restaurant reservations and arranging amazing guides in Venice, Naples and Milan.Mario was our guide in Rome and Florence and he made the two cities alive. We truly enjoyed our tour with him and with his vast knowledge and connection, we lived like a local in this two beautiful great cities. He really lives up the reputation of the true meaning of Grand tour. He deserves more than a 5 star review and he is highly recommended.

3 Weeks, planned to perfection!

Mario planned our trip perfectly, no detail missed! He really is amazing at what he does from planning to delivering tours. I was nervous about not having him for all of our guided tours, but I was pleasantly surprised. He did a great job finding a good fit for us keeping in mind our 16 year old son who needed to stay engaged! He also did a great job with our driver, who acted as guide much of our trip. I highly recommend Mario without hesitation. In fact, so much that I was inspired to write my first review ever!

Three Days in Italy

In mid July, 13 members of our family traveled to Europe. On part of trip, we spent time in Italy, including Rome, Pomeii and the Sorrento coast. It was the first trip to Italy for most of us. Mario Bernardi, with The Grand Tour arranged our tour. He came highly recommended by a work colleague of one of our group. He did a great job of arranging private transportation from our hotel to the places that we selected to tour. Our driver, Marco also added to our memorable experience, by getting us to and from sites, safely and in comfort. The tour guides that Mario arranged were all excellent. On our first day we went to Pompeii. Our guide was Lucretia and she shared a wealth of knowledge and history with us. It was July 17th and it was 99 degrees! After the tour of Pompeii, Marco drove us to the Sorrento coast for a beautiful lunch at the Bikini Complesso Turistico, and a quick swim in the Mediterranean. On Saturday, once again our driver Marco, picked us up at the hotel and we met our guide for the Vatican tour. His name was Giorgio. He took us on an amazing tour of the Vatican, including St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museum. On the third day, we met our guide Marcello, for our tour of St. Paul's Basilica and the Catacombs. It too was an unforgettable day, with so much history to take in! Thank you Mario and The Grand Tour!

Best Tour Guide in Europe

We spent a spectacular two days with Mario. He is entertaining, calm, flexible, and incredibly knowledgable. And his English is perfect! We were looking for out-of-the box activities that would keep our teens engaged. Mario didn't disappoint. We kayaked on Lake Bracciano, visited the Etruscan Tombs at Cerveteri, took a boat ride on the Tiber, and toured Ostia. Everything was perfect. We learned a lot, had a great time, and saw sights that weren't swarming with tourists. Mario is the best. Don't go anywhere else!
