Mount Vesuvius looms over the Bay. It is still an active volcano and scientists consider that there will be more eruptions. Visitors can climb Vesuvius, it is recommended that visitors take sweaters and hats, there can be quite a chill at the top.
The Amalfi coast is a stunning coastline stretching from Sorrento to Salerno. The road is best driven by a private car and it does get windy, but there are no other views anywhere in the world. Looking over the blue waters, passing through beautiful towns and stunning villages, like Positano and Ravello.
Sorrento is a well known resort town at the start of the Amalfi Coast. With beautiful views and picture perfect settings, it is great to discover southern Italian charm and was a compulsory stop on the Grand Tour of yesteryears.
Positano is one of the most photographed places on the Amalfi coast, illustrating the breath-taking beauty. Full of boutiques delightful places to eat, Positano is a stunning place to stay, with beaches to relax.
Along the coast is the town of Ravello, a popular place that hangs over the Coast, with superb views, there is a glamour to this little town. The Cathedral dates from the 11th century with an impressive pulpit and museums located in the crypt.
With lots to see and do along the coast, this is one of the most visited places with many tourists in the high season. But the beauty and the imagery alone make this area one of the most stunning places in the world.
Carpi is a delightful island and a great day trip. Capri is beautiful, with breath-taking caves, narrow lanes and wonderful shops. Of the main sites, the Blue Grotto is a stunning an interesting place to visit. The light refracting off the sides of the cave create the magical blue.
