From the first millennium AD, the Renaissance, medieval and modern Rome were built over the ruins of the Roman buildings. Sometimes recycling the old structures, but mostly just building on top, ignoring what was underneath.
Today hundreds of crypts, rooms, fountains, houses, temples and tombs are still perfectly preserved underground. It is a unique treasure not open to everyone, but a visit to Rome which does not include these sites will be like missing one of Rome most attractive aspects. Most of the sites are not open to the public if not accompanied by a Guide.
Times and itineraries may be subject to changes, per availability of the sites. Please note that this tour can be challenging for kids under 6 and for people with mobility disabilities.
